Yesterdays Run
5miles, slower, chilly (hooray)
I’m having a hard time grasping the fact that we are now in September, like, seriously, what happened? The biggest benefit of September, that I see right now, is that all the teachers in my life go back to school, and I no longer have to listen to how they are on vacation while I’m getting ready for work. YES, teachers deserve summers off, it just stings a little when they rub it in, and they do- MOM!
Sunday, I weighed in at 129.4; I lost 1.6lbs! I am only 4.4 measly lbs away from my next mini goal- and I want it. I don’t know what my prize will be yet for hitting 125, but I’m pretty excited. Suggestions?
My running last week was pretty awesome. I ran a total of 26 miles; more than I’ve done in a while. I had two 5miles, two 3miles, and one really unexpected 10miler. I hadn’t done 10 since running a half marathon in May. When I went out running that day, I set my stop watch, and said “I’m just going to run until I’m tired”. I did a 7 mile loop and a 3 mile loop- once I was done with the three, I didn’t think I could take another step. But I did it, and I did sub 10 min miles. Which, ya know, I’m slow so that pretty great.
But here’s the catch, now that I’ve done 10, the wheels are turning. There’s a half marathon September 23- should I go for it? Keep in mind I’m running the relay October 12th.
Thanks to Katie, I am now having way less foot pain when I run. I have both a high instep and really wide toes. When you visualize that, you probably think I’m a freak, I promise they’re not as bad as they sound. Anyway, thanks to Katie, I found out I can simply lace my shoe another way to alleviate some of the pressure.
Side note: Isn’t it funny, that at 25 years old, I never once though a shoe could be laced differently. Social norms.
I no longer have pain at the top of my foot or on the sides of my toes. Hopefully, it’ll stay that away, this was way cheaper than a new pair of sneakers.

I am now a FitFluential Ambassador! What does this mean for you? Potentially; some really cool things (giveaways!). I will fill you in on stuff as I find it out.
Okay, question of the day. I enjoy getting my nails done, but this is always the part I get stuck at…
They’ve grown out too much for me to function normally. What do I do? How do I get them off? My normal process when I get to this point is to rip them off in a painful- could-be-considered-torture way. Can I go back to the person who did them? Do I have to get them redone? Help!
How was your labor day? Did you work or play?
Do you have any races coming up that you aren’t sure about?
Should I buy a new pair of sneakers anyway?

um go for it! I think you could easily do it. Yes, slow and steady but I think you will be impressed with how far you have come. I love that distance race!
Me too. It really is a fun distance! I think I will, I just have to really feel prepared for races or I panic!
Shoe-wise, I’d get you gait and stride checked out at the running store just to make sure you have the right shoe for your body. The laces are a quick fix but there may be a great shoe out there that fits your style better and can help you perform better
.
As far as your nails… You need to go get them filled and shortened cuz those dont look great!!!
Will you go with me? I’m scared.
And thanks for pointing out the obvious.
Hey there! Awesome lacing method for shoes! I’ve never seen that! Also, I am a nail addict! U def don’t need to rip them off!! That’s so painful!! Just go to the person who put them on and say u want them removed. They will soak them and do it properly so there’s no damage and pain! It’s not too costly either! They can even just repaint and manicure them too once they remove the acrillic so they look nice if u want that! :0) spa love!
Really?? I will do that! Ripping them off hurts so much!
I spent my Labor Day volunteering at the Democratic National Convention meeting alot of people from all over the US!
My dad told me! I’m so jealous and I want to hear all about it! I hope I can do that someday!
Ugh. Nails. I had to get mine off my hands last week. They were driving me nuts. You can go back and have the salon remove them…what I did took forever, but I did it myself, so hey.
First you have to trim them down. I suggest using a sharp scissor instead of puny nail clippers, because the nail clippers hurt. Unless you have industrial strength clippers…anyways so clip them short, then get a glass bowl and soak your nails in nail polish remover. It takes forever (I was told 20 min) but it felt longer. The nails soften and get gooey and you can kind of wipe them off…I think it works best if you use your fingers to smear some off while in the remover every few minutes. They say to put something like olive oil or lotion on your nails after because they’ll get really dried out during the removal process.
It’s a pain, but it works.
This is how I usually do it, but I get impatient and don’t soak them long enough and just end up ripping my nail (fake and real) off. Ouch.
Ah, we have the same weight loss goal, and we are almost in the same place! Ok, so that’s my final goal, not a mini-goal, but it’s so exciting to be so close. Unfortunately, I am up a little after this weekend. This last few pounds is rough for me! And I have never thought of tying laces differently either! I had issues with a new pair of shoes the other day, so I didn’t tie them as tight then next time, and they seemed fine. Might have to give this a shot. And congrats on becoming a FitFluential Ambassador!!!
Thanks! I’m very excited to now be an ambassador!
I have 10 lbs left until I hit my final goal and I know exactly what you mean that the last lbs are slow. It’s agonizing and pretty frustrated at times! We can do it!
I think you should DEFINITELY go for the half! If you just ran 10 you can easily do it. And you will still have adequate time to recover and train for the relay in my opinion. Good luck with getting the nails off…I remember days of soaking my nails in acetone to get them to come off.
Welcome to the fitfluential family! Congrats on almost reaching your goal. I always buy cute workout stuff as a little gift to myself once I complete a goal.
Thank you! I’m really excited to be a part of this wonderful group! I do NEED some new work out clothes, I was actually toying with the idea of a garmin…
I vote that you run the half. I would recommend trying to do it a bit slower pace than your normal – that way you reduce the risk of injury or burning out your legs before the relay. My labor was a relaxing one with lots of play — until a nasty stomach bug hit and wrecked my insides. Thankfully, I am on the mend!
Congrats on joining the FitFluential family! Woohoo!! Our RTB team is awesome
I’ve never tried to change the way I tie my laces but I think I really need to, I sometimes have pain on the top of my foot. I may try this out!
Yes we are! You should try it, the top of my foot was where my pain was, and now it’s gone!
I spent my labor day working, first day back
Mike and I just need to find a November run, we don’t have one yet. I would say if you feel like you can do the half, go for it! Then you can be like most of us and run in a race right before the relay
