Be careful, and use a fork

Before I get to anything important, let’s just talk about something very frustrating, real quick, I promise.

We’re looking to move, like, ASAP. I’ve been scouring Craigslist, because that’s the only place people list anymore, and every time I find something great, I get an email like this back:

“…I’m the owner of the house you are making inquiries about, thanks for looking at my ad for the house, its a really nice place and I’ve lived here for a while, its a 4 room, 3 bathroom, single family house.I decided to move because i got a new job in London, UK, . so my house is available for rent immediately…”

Then it goes into how they will trust I’m a good person, I just have to fill out a questionnaire and send it to them, along with a wire of my deposit and first months rent. Someone will then kindly meet me to give me the keys. Oh, and I can’t tour the house until they have the money.

I’ve so far gotten emails from people in my area who have conveniently been relocated to London, Moscow, Iraq and Malaysia. How nice of these people to just trust me based on my email address and proper use of grammar- my good reputation must follow me.

Along with getting my hopes and dreams dashed, I’m worried because there are people out there who will fall for these scams. I know I shouldn’t need to say it but; please don’t ever wire someone in a foreign country- unless it’s like your brother and he ran out of money hitchhiking. Even then, be skeptical.

Rant over.

Yesterday, I started my training, I ran 5 semi fast miles. I’m not sure how fast they were because I never look at the clock when I walk out the door, and I don’t own a watch (something I’m looking to invest in soon).

It was the perfect weather for running, in the 60′s, cloudy, a slight breeze. Not like this summer stuff we’ve been seeing lately. I can not wait until the fall.

My dad is my pacer, I’ve never run a race without him so I need to learn how my legs feel at a quicker speed, because obviously, he won’t be running the relay with me. The plan for this week is:

  • Monday- 5 miles, easy but fastish (check)
  • Wednesday- Speed training at the track
  • Friday- 5 fast miles
  • Saturday- easy long run. I’m thinking 7 or 8. Maybe 9, we’ll see.

Unfortunately for me, the temperatures are going back up to unbearable, so once again; hydration will be key.

Have I ever told you how I’m a Grilled Cheese culinary genius?

Pepper jack Cheese, Turkey, Tomato, America Cheese

You may be wondering how I became so awesome at grilled cheese.

Answer:

  • Being too lazy to go to the store
  • Not being allowed to cook anything too complex- in fear of the apartment burning down.

Do any of you have this problem where people at work like to bring in cake and cookies and chips and everything delicious- then leave it sitting right where you can see it? And by right where you can see it, I mean- you can walk to the other side of your work, past lots of other people, and into another room, and if you look for it- you can see it. But it’s basically sitting on your desk because every one else it eating, or mentioning it. Just to make sure you aren’t left out. Yeah. It’s awesome.

Well, here’s my confession, I fell into the cake trap. And as I was shoving cake in my mouth, my coworker walked past and I said “I just entered an entire new level of fat”. I instantly felt awful. My daily plan does leave room for goodies but I could have at least put it on a plate and eaten it with a fork like a human. Not a gorilla.

Oh well, another day, another lesson.

What kind of GPS/Timing Watch/Device do you use?

Cake at work, thoughts?

Have you, or someone you know, fallen for a scam?

dont beat yourself up about the cake! you sadly cant control what ppl bring to work, but you can control how you deal with it. a vey small slice here and there won’t hurt you though! i would make sure to always have a healthy option available for you to munch on when these things arise just in case you get the urge for the cake! it’s tough, but keep chugging along! SPA love

People make fun of me because I always have healthy food in my purse, but seriously, it’s gotten me through many cake situations.

And there is a scam of someone pretending to be your relative in trouble overseas … I have a Garmin and love it. I pretend that people have sneezed on that cake — maybe they did!

That’s such a good lie to tell yourself! I’m going to try that because I definitely won’t eat sneezy cake!
Do you think a garmin is worth the money? I want one but the price tag is what I’m having a hard time swallowing. How long has yours lasted for?

It’s probably worth comparison shopping, but I like the small women’s model. I wish it were easier to share results – I don’t like or use the Garmin Connect interface much.

I probably wouldn’t connect or share no matter what, so I’m not too bothered by that. But I definitely will do some comparison shopping. I need something with a big screen, because I’m pretty much blind when running.

I am fortunate that my work never brings food, it is crazy. I think we are all just so busy that it never touches our office. You have entered my hellish apartment hunting reality, I told you it is tough. That is why I just caved and went over budget. Craigs list was a crap shoot for me. Don’t be hard on yourself, if I had to stare at say my weakness gummy bears, I would just have eaten them. My willpower is pretty bad sometimes. i love that your dad is your pacer, I wish I had a family member into running. ps. I hope you were lying when they said Furby was coming back out…. aHAHHHHHHHHHH

We have food at work ALL THE TIME. If someone doesn’t bring it in, we order, food demons everywhere.
Did you have better luck looking for an apartment on a different site? Craigslist is starting to be the death of me.
Also, yes, the furby is back, and scarier than ever.

P.S. You know how I feel about gummy bears.

    Can I join you Friday??

Phil has a timex ironman watch, I really like it and need to get one of my own. “30 bucks at Walmart,” he says.

      For running?
My dad keeps telling me about this 30 bucks watch thing, I have yet to see them exist.

Yikes! I HATE scams! I use the Garmin Forerunner 205. It’s an older watch but it does everything I need it to do! I love it!

I have fallen into the cake trap far to often in my corporate career. For awhile, I tried the “I’ll just have a small piece” – but would then secretly shovel in a bigger piece when nobody was looking. Now I just politely decline all together, and leave the party/event/etc. It is not easy but I know in the long term it will pay off for me.

Yeah, i can’t go that “small piece” route, it’s all or nothing for me.

We have a counter in the main area of our office where people will frequently bring in treats to share… cookies, cake, etc. Once someone brought in cherry tomatoes from their garden (which is a great idea). But mostly it’s a healthy eating sabatoge station. I gave up “counter food” for lent last year, and it really helped me steer clear… but mostly I just wish folks would leave their leftover desserts home, and out of temptations way :) Most of us are trying to eat better, and I think people other than me would appreciate it.

The thing that kills me is that people bring it in so it’s out of their home so they won’t eat it. But then they do eat it and they torture the rest of us (me).

    1. I use a Garmin 405, which I inherited from my brother-in-law. I love it, although the “bezel” gets a bit finicky sometimes. I know a lot of people have the Garmin 310 and are happy with it. I’m waiting for my brother-in-law to hand me down his Garmin 910. Unfortunately I think it will be a while!
2.One of the few advantages of working in an office with only 3 other people, one of whom is a woman on Atkins: there are no goodies around to tempt me.

    Tootles!

You’re my kind of person!! I LOVE grilled cheese. It definitely needs to be in my life more.
