After a semi-unsuccessful run this morning I decided it was time to splurge a little and buy some new running shoes. I strike really hard on my heels so my shoes get worn down quick and it causes pain in my ankles/feet. And I can’t afford an injury right now. Literally, co-pays add up!
I got that shirt for free at a concert a few weeks ago. The people from WITR were really nice and didn’t seem too annoyed that I asked a lot of questions and took all of their free stuff.
I currently run in Nike Free Run 2.0 – According to almost everything I’ve read and heard, these are not necessarily the best running shoes or “most professional” shoes, but I really like them.
You can’t see it very well but the heel is pretty much non-existent.
First I went to Fleet Feet to get measured and see what they had. I didn’t leave with sneakers but I did get some goodies.

New socks are at the top of “My Favorite Things” list (#10 for this mom)
I was told all the other flavors are gross. Opinions?
I ended up back in Brockport at Olympia Sports. I like them because even though the sales associates don’t always know about running, or have the right answer- they won’t make one up, they will flat out tell you that they don’t know, I appreciate that. The guy today was exceptionally nice to me. He let me try on pretty much ever pair of shoes they had and was patient the entire time. I spent about 1.5 hrs there and never once felt like I was being pressured or pushed to make a decision and get out.
I tried on Saucony, Asics, and every other brand they had. But what I ended up with…
The exact same shoe I had before just in a different color!
What can I say? I’m a girl who knows what I like can’t handle change.
I like them because I have fat toes and these are really wide in front. They are also super light and flexible. I feel like I’m running on air!
And the guy twisted my arm into buying some comfy insoles to help my obnoxiously high arches.
So at the end of the day, I got some good deals products and I’m pretty pleased with myself.
Now I’m going to go attempt run #2 because I’m impatient that I don’t want to wait until tomorrow.
Questions:
Do you use gels when running? Are any flavors better than orange?
What kind of shoes do you run in?

Oh, GU! I like the berry flavors. The Roctane is double/triple the caffeine and it’s good. I stay away from the chocolate and coffee flavors. The lemon is caffeine-free so what’s the point?
I love my Asics GT-2160′s but when I’m due for new shoes I’m going to get refitted. I’m sure my gait/strike will be a bit different when I’m smaller.
Isn’t caffeine the point of them?
My point exactly! But they are pure sugar energy so if someone’s sensitive to caffeine then the lemon would work for them.
I run in Nike Vomeros and love them but sometimes want to try other brands. I am afraid to change but maybe one day soon I will. I think the Jet Blackberry and Vanilla Bean GU is pretty good. I have never tried the Peanut Butter GU before everyone who has tried it claims that it is good.
I want to try other brands, but I’m so comfortable with what I already run in. PB? That sounds too gross for me, but hey, maybe it’s great!
I love peanut butter but as Gu? Ohmigosh…something sounds so wrong! I’ll have to scope it out at Dick’s Sporting Goods next time I’m there.
Just found your blog! Love the shoes, super sweet! Get some great runs in with those babies.
I really like my Vasque cross training sneakers (I’m from the northeast). They are so expensive but a high quality shoe is worth not getting injured. You have a beautiful impatient face!

So I wore the very same socks today… They are my favs! And I have to tell you that my very fav gu which is hard to find is mint chocolate. Santa puts them in my stocking instead of candy.
As previously discussed, I bought new shoes yesterday and ran in them this morning. I am IN LOVE with them. They are the inov-8 f-lite 195s and just for kicks I bought the f-lite 230′s too. I prefer a minimalist shoe to something more structured and I may never run in anything else again!!! True unconditional love after one run… Hope I love them as much tomorrow and next week!!!!
I believe I saw the mint chocolate GU at the Fleet Feet in Greece yesterday!
I cannot do Gu’s. I’ve tried and tried and they’re just ewwww and not nice on my tummy at all. Plus, everyone always says how the chocolate flavor is like chocolate frosting. LIES! Definitely not the same!!
I love shot blocks and sports beans. They work amazing w/ me and I actually like the taste and feel like I’m eating candy (maybe b/c I kinda am?!?!).
Cute shoes!
Those shoes look awesome!
I love GU…one of the best sport’s gels I’ve ever found!
